Championing sustainability for Wandsworth

After being highly commended at the 2023 Wandsworth Business Awards in the Environmental/Sustainability Champion category, this year CREW took home the top prize!
The Wandsworth Chamber of Commerce was founded over 50 years ago and has been championing the cause of local businesses ever since. Every year they host the Wandsworth Business Awards, to showcase the best businesses our borough has to offer.

This year’s event took place at the iconic Clapham Grand, where we donned our gladrags to rub shoulders and celebrate with fellow small, local businesses, and enjoy some jazzy tunes from Hand Fulla Soul.

The Environmental/Sustainability Champion award celebrates organisations that “can prove great consideration for the environment and the climate emergency.” Sound familiar?

The judges were clearly impressed by the work we’ve been doing over the last year to bring 1,500 free energy advice interventions through our SW LEAP project - which saved customers a combined 189 tonnes CO2 and £173k per year. Not to mention the 58 business energy audits across four London boroughs last year, plus the 3,850 winter warm packs we distributed to people in our community on behalf of Wandsworth Council last winter. We’ve equally been working with local community buildings and third sector organisations to install low-carbon technologies, like the 55kW of solar panels we installed at a London primary school.

We’re proud that our work not only has a positive impact on our local environment, reducing the amount of carbon that is emitted into the air, but that it also helps people and businesses in our borough to save money on their energy bills – a lifeline at a time when many are struggling to make ends meet.

We wanted to say a huge thank you to the Wandsworth Chamber of Commerce for shining a spotlight on our work
– and community energy as a whole – with this award. We were honoured to be shortlisted alongside some other incredible organisations doing brilliant things for the environment. Do check them out at the links below.

We look forward to seeing how we can collaborate for impactful local climate action in the very near future.
