Did you know around 22% of the UK’s carbon emissions come from our homes? That's our heating, lighting and appliances.

This week, Citizens Advice and Energy Saving Trust have teamed up to bring us Energy Saving Week (20-26 Jan).

In case you missed it, we've been sharing tips, ideas and facts on our social media so you can learn more about the hugely positive impact of energy efficiency. We've summarised them below so you can have them all in one place.

We hope these simple, easy measures help you feel inspired to reduce your emissions and save money and energy in the process!

Be inspired this energy savers week

Take the first step

Energy efficiency can sometimes feel overwhelming. So much jargon! 🤬 Too expensive! 🤑

Or is it… What if we told you everyone can do SOMETHING to start making a difference (sometimes for free!)?

energysavingtrust.org.uk/campaign/energysaversweek/Check out these small, low to no-cost measures from Energy Saving Trust that will help you start saving energy today. Which one will you try? 💡

Build up to positive action

Once you’ve mastered the art of the energy freebie, you can start taking medium-sized steps towards an energy efficient home.

💨 Tackle draughts with draught-proofing tape
🪟 Upgrade your windows to double glazing
🧣 Insulate, insulate, insulate to stop your heat escaping

You can even get grants to support you with these measures! Find out more via the Energy Saving Trust.

Could you insulate your home for less than £100?

As winter sets in, older houses can get increasingly cold and drafty – and energy bills can skyrocket. A listener got in touch with BBC Radio 4's Sliced Bread to ask if there's any way he can effectively insulate his semi-detached Victorian home without breaking the bank.

Budget solutions on the market include plastic window films, insulation tape for doors and windows and silver foil sheets that fit behind radiators. But do any of them really work to keep the cold out and the heat in?

The podcast discusses products that promise to warm up your home for potentially less than £100. Which of these cheaper, DIY insulation hacks – suitable for renters as well as homeowners – can really save us energy and money?

Become a net zero hero!

Ready to go one step further? There are a few bigger measures you could consider to generate your own energy or use your energy more wisely:

🌱 Air source heat pump
☀️ Solar panels and battery storage
🌡️ Hydromx radiator and boiler fluid
🧠 Smart thermostats and radiator valves

A CREW energy assessment can help you understand how you currently use energy in your home or business, so you can make a decision on which technology is right for you.

Get started with a home energy assessment.

Energy efficiency is not just for homes!

We support businesses, charities and community buildings to do more for our planet by reducing their energy bills and carbon footprints.

These projects save tonnes of CO2 every year, making our neighbourhoods cleaner, greener places to live. And making sure our local businesses can spend their money on their vital services.
