Phase 1 of our project with Hoxton Hall in Hackney went live in August 2024 with the installation of the building management system. and destratifiers. Once match funding has been released for phase 2, we will be installing Hydromx, solar PV and some secondary glazing.
Collaborators and funders
The project is funded through Hackney Council's Community Energy Fund, managed by Hackney Light and Power.
Technology used
Building management system
The BMS is forecast to cut consumption by 25% (ETL stated).
Destratifiers
The Destratifers are forecast to cut consumption in the main theatre space by 20% (manufacturer's estimate is 30%).
Hydromx
Hydromx is a super inhibitor that reduces calcification and sludging, thus extending appliance life. As Hydromx warms spaces quicker and holds heat for longer, the boiler run time will be reduced resulting in less gas being burnt, saving not just cash and carbon but also reducing gas flue emissions, resulting in less CO, NOX and PM in the local atmosphere. Hydromx at Hoxton Hall is forecast to cut consumption by 25%.
The cost reductions made on the energy savings laid out above will ease Hoxtons Hall’s running costs. Based on 2023 prices for electricity, these measures would result in combined cost savings of just under £4,000 per year on gas and electricity bills.

Additional benefits
We are planning to run an event for the public/Hoxton Hall patrons to explain the measures we are implementing and offer advice on how they can take similar actions at home or in their workplaces. We also have budget to run an energy advice event for clients where attendees receive two free energy saving light bulbs.
