ATTLEE CENTRE

Picture

Locality: Tooting Common, Wandsworth
Asset owner: Woodfield Pavilion
Energy saved: 8.05 tonnes CO2e per annum (heat pumps: 7.5 tonnes, secondary glazing: 0.75 tonnes)
Money saved: ~ £XX per annum

Tech used:
  • Air source heat pump
  • Secondary window glazing

In 2023, we supported The Woodfield Pavilion with the installation of an air source heat pump (ASHP) and secondary glazing. The ultimate goal was to show, by example, how other community establishments and local residents, including small scale private sector landlords, can introduce new, greener technologies to power their homes, community centres and rental properties, thereby saving money and helping to reduce negative impact on the local environment.

Collaborators and funders

This project was funded by the London Community Energy Fund, the Oak Foundation and Wandsworth Grant Fund, together with donations from the community.

Technology used

  • Air source heat pumps
We installed one air source heat pump to reduce reliance on the building's gas boiler. The advantage of this project is that the Pavilion is of a similar size to an average house in the area: the project can demonstrate to the community how air source heat pumps can be used at a residential level.

  • Secondary glazing
We upgraded eight windows with colour-matched secondary glazing, reducing the amount of heat that escapes through the window and keeping the building warmer for longer, reducing heating use.

Additional benefits

We've worked with Woodfield Pavilion to host regular energy cafés where our trained energy advisors provide free energy advice and support with bills, benefits and more.

The Pavilion intends to run training sessions on how to install, operate and live with a heat pump. In addition, TWP works with partner organisations, such as a new higher education provider - TEDI-London, members and volunteers to produce educational material and run engagement events to enable the transfer of knowledge and confidence to the wider community about ASHP installation and benefits.

About Woodfield Pavilion

The Woodfield Pavilion (TWP) is an active and thriving community centre, working since 2019 with a broad cross section of the local community. They have hundreds of users and visitors throughout the year from many different cultural and socio-economic areas who engage in classes, activities and projects - from community lunches in support of refugees and other vulnerable groups, cooking projects, art and craft initiatives, energy efficiency and climate action work, yoga and wellbeing sessions and private hire.
