Saving money while improving air quality? See how!

Commercial and domestic gas boilers are responsible for around 16% of London's NOx emissions (data from 2016). Energy efficiency measures can improve air quality and reduce your energy bills. Read about the things that you can change at home.
1. Make some behavioural changes:
  • Only heat the rooms you use, you can use smart thermostat and smart valves
  • Draught-proof your home with DIY methods, click here for our post with tips. And here to create an up-cycled draught excluder.
  • Don’t overheat your home, the ideal temperature should be between 18 and 21 degrees.

2. Technology:

  • Consider Hydromx, a replacement solution for water in your radiators, it can improve heating efficiency by 20-35% and cut your energy bill to up to 30%. Read more here.
  • Consider a smart thermostat and smart valves, you can control the temperature at home when you’re away and switch on heating only when you need it and in the rooms you use. Smart thermostats also adjust the heating to the weather outside to make energy use more efficient. This cuts your bills and reduces domestic emissions.
  • Replace your regular light bulbs with LEDs - It would cost the average UK household about £100 to replace all of their lights with LEDs but this would save about £35 a year on bills and LED bulbs can last for 25 years. That means the bulbs would pay for themselves in just under 3 years, leaving you with 22 more years to enjoy your lighting and savings. Read more here.
  • Heat pumps! The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) runs until March 2022 and payments are done for 7 years. To explore your options you can book a Home Carbon Audit and see if a heat pumps is a good solution for your home. To book a visit and find out more click here.
